9-11 Remembered in Song and Spirit

In Lebanon, September 11, 2002, will be remembered for it's gifts.  At a morning prayer service we received the gift of hope and love.  Speakers reminded us of the courage of ordinary persons, of the compassion and perseverance of emergency personnel.

At noon, The Community of Lebanon Association added a brick to Citizens Walk.  This gift, in commemoration of the lives lost one year ago, is a tangible reminder of our sorrow and tribute to lives touched by terror.

Music was the final gift of the day.  The Lebanon Community Concert Band under the direction of Timothy Erdman, played to a full house in the Lebanon High School auditorium.  Anita Patton O'Connor brought the crowd to their feet when she sang "God Bless the USA".  4 Way Intersection, a quartet from Cedar Crest High School, provided the perfect background tones to a slide presentation of 9-11 photos and student drawings with their rendition of "America the Beautiful".

It was a day of gifts - from a generous community willing to share:

Janet Derr, Vladimir Rivera Lugo, and Emily Hess, and many others, gave the gift of art to the community by entering the coloring contest.

Captains Chris and Cynthia Smith, Salvation Army, and Steve Kreamer gave photos for the slide show.

Karen Groh, I.A. Design, not only chaired the concert committee, she worked on advertising, the program, and designed the slide presentation.

Richard Schaeffer, Schaeffer and Associates Printing provided patriotic handouts and flags.

Major General James Skiff, Deputy Adjutant General-Air, Department of Military and Veterans Affairs; Mayor Robert Anspach; Reverend Barry Kendell, Messiah Lutheran Church and Don Bowman, WLBR, enriched the program with their remarks.
