Anita
O’Connor has been performing in the Annapolis area for more than 10 years.
You may have been fortunate enough to see her on stage at the Chesapeake
Music Hall in They’re Playing Our Song, Annie Get Your Gun or
most recently Funny Girl. Perhaps you have seen her behind the piano at one of the many
local nightclubs where she’s packed in an audience to hear her unique Broadway
style cabaret act. Her talent has
been on loan to many local theaters and high schools as a theatrical music
director and music instructor. Of
her many credits performing at the Grand Ole Opry and representing Pennsylvania
in the Miss America Pageant stand out. Most
recently Ms. O’Connor has added another major credit to her resume in her most
recent recording “If You Believe”.
“In 1998 I
released a recording titled ‘Love, Me’ for my first born child, Sarah
O’Connor. I wanted to provide her
with a musical keepsake that she could pass down to her children. With the help of some friends, this musical keepsake turned
into a wonderfully orchestrated collection of heartfelt music that had to be
shared with friends and family. My
husband and I had another beautiful daughter, Hayley, and I began to produce a
second recording just for her. So
once again my good friends helped to create ‘If You Believe’,” explained
Ms. O’Connor.
The first
recording, which can be found on Amazon.com has a collection of contemporary
favorites from Carole King’s “You’ve Got A Friend” to the Eagles “Desparado”.
It also touches country music with “On A Bus to St. Cloud” and
Broadway with “Moonshine Lullaby” from Annie Get Your Gun.
Ms. O’Connor’s latest release, with arrangements by another local
artist Dave Hughes, showcases her warmth and vocal versatility.
Once again, the styles range from country, to Broadway and to adult
contemporary. The selections may
not be as well known, but they are powerful. Martina McBride’s “Blessed”,
Cindi Thomson’s “What I Really Meant To Say”, “If You Believe” from The
Wiz and many more are included in this wonderful recording.
Both
recordings were recorded and mastered at LSP Studios in Annapolis, MD.
“I’ve been working with Les Lentz and the folks at LSP Studios for
more than 10 years. I couldn’t
imagine anyone having the ability to capture my vocals as well as Les,”
commented Ms. O’Connor.
When
asked how she came to select the music in her latest release Ms. O’Connor
stated, “each song selected holds a special meaning.
They remind me of the people who have influenced me in my life.
Most importantly, I wanted the songs to weave a tapestry and in total
tell a story of who I am. When my
children have grown and look back to better understand their mother, I want this
to stand as a testament of my love for them.
In this special way I’ll always be a part of their lives.”
On Friday,
